Our passion for big ideas expands outside the advertising industry. Several of our Charlotte advertising agency employees have experience in new product development and pursue these interests inside and outside of our shop.

This past weekend, our Senior Digital Strategist, Paul Benninghove, put his background in business development to work at Triangle Startup Weekend. The Raleigh-based event pitted 17 startups against each other in a 54-hour around the clock competition to develop their product and business ideas. At the end of the weekend, each startup pitched their progress to an audience of established companies and investors in hopes of carrying their dream forward.

Paul served as a coach and worked to develop product content and branding pieces for three main startups—BcubeD, MathemagiX, and Let’s Chip In.

BcubeD worked on a project called Build A Better Block, an app designed to enable local communities to crowdsource projects that will improve their neighborhood.

MathemagiX developed a story-based gamed designed to help teach math to pre-teen girls.

Let’s Chip In created an app that enables people to crowdsource the purchase of baby shower gifts for their friends and family.

In the end, Let’s Chip In came out of the competition with a working prototype, which led to a first place victory. A weekend of no sleep and premium thinking can produce some big results.
